Chelsea reclaims top spot
Chelsea are leading the Premier League after a comeback to win 2-1 at Fulham and widen their lead over Manchester United and Arsenal. These three additional points means the Blues are back on a winning path after recent setbacks and are currently five points ahead of United and seven ahead of Arsenal, however, Chelsea down have a game in hand so the gap could lessen.
The match didn’t start too well for Chelsea with the Hungarian Zoltan Gera scoring for Fulham in the 4th minute after a mistake from John Terry. They were saved in the second half thanks to a goal from Didier Drogba in the 73rd minute and an own goal by Chris Smalling in the 75th minute..
However, overall the match was disappointing for fans as the defence was poor and the side at times looked faltering and vulnerable. Drogba was clearly the hero of the game scoring his fourteenth goal of the season which puts him along side Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe leading the charts.
In the mean time the Ivorian and other African players in the team left to join their national teams ahead of the matching in January in the Angola Africa Cup of Nations.
Tottenham also had a successful weekend beating West Ham 2-0 and pushing Aston Villa out of fourth position. Birmingham City won 1-0 beating Stoke which keeps them in the running for a place in the European cup. Everton also had success beating Burnley 2-0 and are now clear of any threat of relegation.
At the bottom end of the table there is tough competition going on between the tenth and nineteenth spot with just six points separating them which means we have an exciting second half of season ahead of us.
