Poker Finalists Look to November for WSOP Final Table
It was a very tired group of players, exhausted from their no-limit Texas Hold’em session that took nearly 18 hours to complete, who won $812,000 each at the World Series of Poker on Sunday, they also each received a ticket for the November final where the winner will walk away with $8.94 million.
One of the players who have reached the final is Joseph Cheong from La Mirada in California. Upon finishing he said, “My brain is barely functioning — it's hard for me to even form sentences right now.”
The nine winners come from a group of 7,319 who entered the $10,000 buy-in which started on July 5th. Matt Affleck from Mill Creek was fifth in chips at one point on Saturday, in the end though he went bust in 15th place. Despite earning $500,165 it was still a hard loss for him.
Jonathan Duhamel had the second biggest chip stack in the tournament, he called an all-in bet from Affleck. Duhamel was holding pocket jacks and there was a 10, 9, 7 and Queen on the board. Affleck had pocket aces, but there was an eight on the river which gave Duhamel a queen high straight and the most chips in the tournament.
Affleck took the loss badly writing on Twitter, “Don't have any words to explain what just happened.” He had worked out that at the turn he was 80% favourite to be the chip lead at the final table
The final table will consist of Duhamel, Cheong, John Dolan, John Racener, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Matthew Jarvis, Soi Nguyen, Filippo Candio and Jason Senti.
