G to H
Gaff: A method or device used in cheating.
Gambling: Something we all love to do! The dictionary defines gambling as "playing games of chance to win money" and "to risk or bet money on the outcome of an event or sport".
Gelding: A term useful for horseracing fans. A gelding is a castrated horse.
George: In American poker parlance, a George is a poor player. However, just to confuse you, a George can also be a player who gives good tips.
Get out: To regain your losses.
Get down: Make a bet.
Glimmer: A poker term for money.
Going all-in: This term is used in cardroom poker. It mans betting all your chips.
Grease: A bribe.
Green: The colour most commonly used for $25 chips.
Grinder: A moderate poker player who only expects to win a small amount of money.
Grind joint: An establishment devoted to small play.
Gross winnings: The total payout on a bet, including your stake.
Gut shock: In poker, the card that will make a straight.
Hanger: A poker term. A hanger is a card that sticks out when the player dealing is cheating.
Hand: Everything that happens in a card game between shuffles, also, the cards that you hold. In horseracing terms, a hand is the unit used to measure a horse's height. A hand is four inches.
Handicapper: A person who studies and evaluates sporting events.
Hard count: The counting of money, rather than chips, in a casino.
Hard hand: A blackjack term referring to a hand that doesn't contain an ace valued at eleven.
Hard four: A pair of twos.
Heads up: One-on-one play in poker.
High poker: In standard/high poker, as compared to low poker, high hands win.
High roller: A heavy better.
High society: Another poker term used to describe the highest denomination chips in a card room.
Hit: A blackjack term that means taking another card. The card itself is also referred to as a hit.
Hold: The amount of money a game makes for the casino within a particular time.
Holding your own: Breaking even.
Hold 'em: In hold 'em poker, each player has two face-down cards and there are five communal cards available to make the best possible hand.
Hole card: In poker, hole cards are the face-down cards dealt to each player. In blackjack, the hole card is the face-down card that the dealer gets.
Hot: A player on a winning streak is hot, as is a slot machine that people are winning on.
Hot seat: In poker, the seat that has had a run of winning hands.
House: A casino, or the operators of a game.
House edge: The casino's built-in advantage over the players.
House rules: The set of rules established by the casino. Breaking these can get you barred.
